Yeah, I don't see the violence in Syria ending anytime soon. Much as I hate to say it, I think there's a good chance that this will be a scenario where the older generation wins. The younger generation in Iran have a better chance. I've noticed that while the Iranian government has been brutal to the protests, there's only so far they've been willing to go. They haven't sent out tanks and aircraft to massacre them.

Sad to say, but President Obama will decide what happens in Syria.

If Obama so chooses, the Sunni Islamists ( the Muslim Brotherhood and others ) will take over Syria.

If not, the pro-Iranian Assad dictatorship will remain in power.

So it will either be a dictatorship by the majority ( Sunni Muslims ) or dictatorship by a small minority sect headed by Assad.

Once the U.S. fully withdraws from Iraq the decision will probably be out of Obama's hands.
