Hmm, the way Greece is behaving sounds a lot like Germany in the early days of the depression. "You have no choice but to bail us out!" Not only that, but some in Portugal's government are threatening to use default as a weapon. They're not quite as bad off as the Greeks, but they're not far behind.

The title of that book, "The Bubble That Broke The World", would also work for the current mess after it is all over. I think we are going to see lots of sovereign debt go bad, either by defaulting or inflation. These governments are broke and those are the only 2 ways out. These crazy high bond prices and crazy low interest rates will be understood to have been a bubble once the bond prices collapse all over.

One thing I don't expect to happen is that there will be any effort to bail the United States out; by that time, everything will have gone to hell.

Agreed — however, America will likely proudly hold the title, as I recall John put it, as "the tallest midget" financially when we get to that stage  —Best regards, Marc

Yeah, I wouldn't be too proud of that title. I wonder what's going to happen in Greece during March.
