Well, since the Taiwan election has been won by Ma Ying-jeou, I'm hoping that will defuse tensions slightly. I don't expect it to mean much in the long term, but it'll give some breathing space.

Since Syria is in an awakening era, would a quick military strike put an end to Assad's government? Iraq collapsed almost immediately, since they had little will to fight, and Syria may do the same, although they are more heavily defended than Libya was.

Technically, it's pretty easy to transmit some forms of cancer, lung cancer and leukemia are probably the easiest. I have difficulty seeing this as a political intervention weapon though, as any suspicion would cause the opposite result to that intended, moreover, it could easily take decades to take effect, and one would presume that was more than enough time to groom a replacement. Therefore, I have to put this as very low on the probability scale. I can't put it to zero though, as certain of our federal agencies are infamous for doing stupid and ineffective things at cross purposes just because the technology is there.

The Arab League is going to ask for intervention in Syria. I seriously doubt they'll offer to pick up the costs.
