François Hollande is in fact a representant from the moderate left. The far left candidates were Jean-Luc Mélenchon supported by a coalition including France's communist party and radical associations and two "small" troskyist candidates.his far left challenger François Hollande in France's presidential election
France is more leftist than the USA : we have no significant libertarian or christian parties, our far-right candidate Marine Le Pen would be considered an oddity in the USA because she is "pro-choice", calls for a bigger welfare state but is anti-immigration and protectionist, federalism is unknown and often ill-understood and our national reflex in economy is statism. French political landscape is as exotic for an American as the American political landscape for a French.
