Re: 25-Aug-12 World View -- Fatal bridge collapse in China
Given the reputation of Chinese officials to bribery, it's hardly surprising that much of the new construction is shoddy. The next step will be to blame the capitalists and reign back private enterprise; in fact, that's already well under way.

Another question about China is, of course, can the government stand less than 10% a year growth? Expectations of the Chinese people have been honed to that figure and 15% a year wage increases. That can't happen even another five years, much less another decade.
The historical Chinese solution has always been war. They've certainly prepared for it this time.
Interesting look at GenX and Ryan.

Re: 25-Aug-12 World View -- Fatal bridge collapse in China
After reading this in yesterday's post: "There have been recent rumors that China is testing a new intercontinental ballistic missile to strike any city in the United States", I was sad and a bit depressed.
But when I read this today: "...shoddy construction is a pervasive problem throughout China. Let's hope that their missiles are equally shoddy", I had a really good laugh
. Thank you John for your sense of humour!

Well, Raymonde, it's black humor to be sure.Raynote wrote:After reading this in yesterday's post: "There have been recent rumors that China is testing a new intercontinental ballistic missile to strike any city in the United States", I was sad and a bit depressed.
