Grossly distracting "entertainment" is common during the final stages of a Third Turning. Bleah.

I have to wonder just what working more hours is supposed to accomplish in the macroeconomic terms? By any rational standard, this would result in fewer employed, thus greater government expenses (pick cops or welfare, you'll get one or the other or most likely both). How does forcing Greece to spend more money translate to austerity? And whence this micromanagement?

While I'd never say Iran is no threat to Israel, Israel has become paranoid over the subject. The IAEA report shows that Iran actually moved further from being able to assemble a bomb, but Israel isn't reading it that way. (They made reactor fuel plates from quite a bit of their enriched uranium, thus forcing them to be reworked if they want to further enrich to bomb material. And according to my old books on nuclear matters, bomb material requires 97% enrichment. They still aren't very close to building a bomb, probably further away than this time last year, but you'll never figure that out from Israel's panic.) An attack on Iran would give them causus belli and they'd have support from much of the third world on then assembling a bomb and nuking Tel Aviv.

An interesting take on population dynamics and the election.

A boat has sunk off Turkey, many refugees reported dead. Some were Syrian. Early reports vary widely on the number killed, from 39 to 58. They were supposedly trying to get to Britain. At least 31 of the dead are reported to be children. The Turkish governor of the district says most were Palestinians.
