That might be true, but there's a crucial difference. In the past, the New York Times revealed secret information to harm the president and hopefully destroy the war effort. Now that Obama's around, it's meant to make him look like a hawk.

I suspect that's in the eye of the beholder, the Times, just like all the "news" organizations in the US, is 99% concerned with money. Since the communications act of 1998, the newsroom has been controlled by the marketing dept. What gets released is what will sell. And given the numbers of doves at any price on the left, this would be likely to cost Obama votes from people who either sit out the election or refuse to vote for any presidental candidate. I've said before and stand by it still, that this election will see inroads by third parties and a record number of people who vote but do not vote on the presidental ballot. People are not happy with either choice by the major parties.

Forcing down a plane is getting pretty close to an act of war, even if it is over your territory.
