Sure is disconcerting. May just be the friction of difficult economic times. But, on the other hand, economic conflict often precedes military conflict. The scary part is that politicians, who are rarely renowned for their economic prowess, are doing the economic negotiating.

Rather scary isn't it: In four years of a transparently weak America, and all of Europe reverts back to the antipathies that are a thousand years old - rather like The Lord of the Flys.
