Who offered compromises and on what during the debt ceiling talks depends entirely on who you ask. The history of that discussion is the most confused and contrary ill reported mess that I ever tried to wade through. Much was conducted behind closed doors, which allowed for a huge quantity of crosstalk over who offered what and how. The cspan timeline is not overly informative.

Anytime I read anything about budget cuts, I have to keep pounding my head with "over ten years" repeatedly. That's the only way Washington will ever issue any statement about cuts, and it's horribly annoying and very fuzzy to boot. Any ten year projection depends on a number of assumptions that may be very doubtful to say the least.

Assad has been warned against using gas, if he does, they'll get that international intervention the Syrian rebels have been asking for. There is at least a possibility that he'd try to gas Tel Aviv on the assumption that all Arab nations would line up behind Syria in a war with Israel.

Wow - that would certainly trigger a massive response from Israel. On
several occasions, my fundamentalist Christian friends have told me
about an Old Testament prophecy about a huge conflagration in
Damascus. If Assad gassed Tel Aviv as you suggest, then he would
certainly be guaranteeing the fulfillment of the Old Testament
prophecy.

Hmmmm -- Are we near the end of the age of Iron?
From what I understand of Hindu Religion ( I do not profess to be an expert ) We are living in the age of Iron. There are four ages - Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Iron. Each age is progressively shorter and less pleasant then the one before it. Iron is short and brutal and at the end everything is destroyed . Then the cycle begins again.
