I suppose all the politicians would curl up and die if any of them actually told something approaching truth about Social Security and its future. The left wants to say nothing is wrong with it at all, and there isn't TODAY, but that won't last, the right wants to claim it's a PONZI scheme, which is fairly ridiculous, and neither side wants to discuss real issues and solutions. But the real elephant in that room is this one here:

And that group is the single biggest voting block in the USA. And that's the reason for this push to do something now, because when that group is on SS, it will not be possible to touch the program without becoming a retired senator or whatever.

Simply turning off the COLA for a few years will fix the program. Stopping the idiotic "payroll tax break" that Obama came up with will help more than anything, and 99% of the reason he did that was to get "SSA taking in less money than paying out" in the news. Yah, and if I cut your paycheck by 1/3, I bet you'd have similar headlines for a while. Every year that cut is active brings the day problems crop up closer by about 2 and a half.

Anyone who thinks Obama isn't hot to cut SS and see the Boomers hurting simply hasn't paid a bit of attention to the manuvering.

It would be nice if the papers would print an estimate of how much money these guys make from their crimes next to the fines. I suppose the owners have told them not to do that, the underwriters wouldn't like it. Never underestimate the power of the underwriters.

The situation in Pakistan is exactly why health organizations everywhere were furious that the CIA had used a health program in such a way. Red Cross/Crescent and health work is supposed to be entirely left out of these sorts of manipulations, because health workers are easy targets and can't defend themselves.
