To john xenakis :

it is not the forum for it but I want to reply you about french regional elections which were commented on your article of yesterday;
I'm french and a faithful reader of your website since I discovered it in 2009
In french political context the UMP is a hardline conservative party (right, more explanations are needed) ; our socialist party is not a far-left party but is not unlike the left wing of your democratic party
In fact, the UMP holds now two regional council presidencies : Alsace and La Réunion (don't forget our overseas departements ; it would be like forgetting Hawai and Alaska on a map of the USA)
With my best feelings,
JULLIEN

I'll have to take your word for it, but I was following news stories
that called the UMP "center-right," and the Socialist party as pretty
far to the left.

Thanks for the correction. I'll try to do more careful research
in the future.
