China has very close, cordial relations with Pakistan, and
has provided arms, nuclear technology, and infrastructure projects.
China has very hostile relations with India (Pakistan's bitter enemy),
as well as other Western allies including Japan and South Korea.
China has clearly and unambiguously sided with Pakistan against India
in the bitter Kashmir/Jammu dispute. China has repeatedly threatened
war with the U.S. over Taiwan, and war could begin literally on few
hours notice. Russia considers China a major Pacific enemy, and
Russia has a close relationship with India. India is allying
with (Shia Muslim) Iran, while Pakistan is allying with the
(Sunni Muslim) Arab states.

i believe that China will not go to war as long as Taiwan do not declare independence. PRC and the majority of the people in ROC prefer the current status quo.

As for the middle east, Iran may end up as the big winner with the fall of arab regimes which are its enemies. Only Al-Queda and other sunni extremists provide any resistance to Iranian power play. In any case, US and the west lose.

Pakistan army's involvement in Gulf civil unrest is a really interesting development that I have not heard about elsewhere. Bad news, of course, but kudos for noticing it.

This is all shaping up so much like the prelude to WWII that it sometimes feels eerie. And we don't see the US jumping into the fray heartily as they would have only a few years ago. Countries begin to defy the countries who bail them out, saying "if I go down, you go down".

It still seems to me that the US will ignore the buildup to war, just sending arms and supplies until someone attacks.
