2. We need more rationality over sensitivity. I just yanked my cable crap and turned it all in today. I'm going to just say no....
We need more sensitivity. It is a big gap in our culture. Our culture is obsessed with the overt and the blatant. Rationality and sensitivity are not mutually-exclusive.

a. Cheap to produce cop shows. A camera man + some police precinct that's willing to put up with a bunch of cameras.
b. Reruns. National Geographic does this. I've just given up on them making anything original anymore
c. Paid Programiming. OK, why the fuck is this stuff even around? I work an odd schedule and at 2:00 AM like clockwork, that's what you get on TLC, National Geographic, etc. I see no need to pay $83.00/month for that stuff. I'm not interested in fat be gone, make big muscle machines along with big muscle young guys, assorted kitchen gadgets, [usually egg peelers, egg poachers, omlet apparati , egg keep from break stuff,]
Duck Dynasty, other reality TeeVee, drug war stuff, etc.
Yeah, me too. Culture producers today have no sense of depth, imagination or interiority, or even a good story. Why the fuck indeed.
See above. Yawnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn. The do loop I added should fix the need to repeat stuff we both know.
I stand by my statement. Obviously true.

This sums up the materialism and shallowness of early 3T culture. This song is from 1985, when the 3T was a new thing.

I am curious what Eric thinks of this song and video since it's barely 3T and Dire Straits were core boomers.

Rags, your summary of TV is spot on! I hate all that cheap garbage too. I'd rather watch paint dry.

What does FUBAR stand for? I'm too lazy to look it up.

OK; I'm curious about what you think of the Chelsea Lately show with Justin Bieber, which you said you would watch, so I guess we're even.

I didn't know either, until a trainer at the commercial human potential movement organization gave me that name during the training I went to in 1980. It means "fucked up beyond all repair," and was used by soldiers (navy I think) during WWII.

I must give the anti-Bieber side equal time on the shrine, since they are such a majority here:

http://newsfeed.time.com/2014/02/21/...c-hockey-game/

The billboard, owned by Command Transportation, a freight broker, features Bieber, the 19-year-old Canadian pop star who resides in the U.S., squeezed between Canadian hockey star Jonathan Toews and U.S. player Patrick Kane, teammates on the NHL’s Blackhawks, but rivals on the Olympic ice. Under the stars sits the caption ‘Loser Keeps Bieber’.

In addition to the billboard-based bet, the hashtag #LoserKeepsBieber was trending on Twitter on Thursday, with hockey-heads on both sides of the border seemingly willing to ante up Bieber before the highly-anticipated matchup.

Perhaps now is an appropriate time to add: Go Team USA.

Of course, since the USA lost, we get to keep JB. Yeah!

Another irony; if the Biebs had decided to devote his talents to his national sport instead of to music, he might have been the figure on the right in the picture instead of the one in the center. In case you didn't know, he has the talent for that too.

No, you are wrong. Millies make good music, but you only listen to the little kids. I'm not an Xer but I see why you're putting Joneser and Xer music together. Because it's all 3T or proto-3T music which you have proved you like more than you want to admit, even if you only like the fringes.

What is "scary" and why the "My God"?

Someone a while back accused me of "pedophilia." No, I don't want sex with little kids. But these children and teens are often more authentic, and sing more beautifully and have nicer personalities, compared to some older folks who feel the need to act tough, edgy or cool and adopt current trends, and who think and worry too much. In fact, I like JB's singing and personality better when he was 16 and 17 than now, when he didn't think and worry so much (by his own admission on Oprah) and try to be soulful, although he is still making good songs, in fact some of the best around today, and just added a new favorite to my list of JB's best. The younger millies are better than the older ones you like, for the most part. I mean, Justin Timberlake? Come on. You're not serious, are you? And you like Lorde, to my hearing an inferior but more popular artist, who is only 17. So?

More popular does not equal better. Again, you are inaccurate, and I disagree with comments that are so-obviously inaccurate, and judgments and accusations and labels based on them. I don't only listen to little kids. If there are some 3T songs I like, even as well as JohnnyO's songs; that's fine; it is still a vastly-inferior (and often outrageously-trashy) period in pop and rock to the 2T, and somewhat inferior to the 4T too.

I am just sharing what I like in hopes you may experience the joy and pleasure I do in hearing the music. Just as I enjoyed the new song by Xer Pharrell Williams that Ghost Echo recently shared. I think that "Happy" song is probably more to my liking than any songs you have shared so far. You can, if you choose, enjoy the music I post, and learn about some new artists, instead of making accusations. That would make me happy. It's your choice.

We sing this song in our little church group, including today.

Here I Am Lord
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcxOkht8w7c (male singer)

It does remind me of Pray, and both can bring a little tear to the eye. The similarity, of course, brings a little tear to my eye.

Justin Bieber has become the first artist to pass a billion views with a single music video on YouTube's VEVO platform thanks to his inescapable hit Baby.
http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-en...o-9149772.html

The company tweeted the milestone over the weekend, confirming Baby is its 'most watched clip ever'.

The track proved to be the breakout hit for Bieber, and is now the only video on the platform to be 10 times certified.

The Canadian singer achieved the feat while still a teenager, with his 20th birthday coming on 1 March.

Let's all take a second to reflect on the track's credits and personnel list and how horribly rich everyone on it must all be:

Songwriting – Justin Bieber, Ludacris, The-Dream, Tricky Stewart, Christina Milian

Production – The-Dream, Tricky Stewart

Vocal production and recording – Kuk Harrell (Bieber's vocals), assisted by Kevin Porter and Travis Harrington, and additional keys by Monte Neuble; Joshua Monroy (Ludacris' vocals)

Mixing – Jaycen Joshua, assisted by Giancarlo Lino

Engineering – Brian Thomas, Andrew Wuepper, Kelly Sheehan, assisted by Luis Navarro; additional by Pat Thrall

In terms of YouTube views, Baby falls short of Psy's Gangnam Style, which is soon to reach the two billion mark.

Justin Bieber Slams 'Sad' Media Over Atlanta Protest Hoax
After a radio station started a fake protest to block him from moving to ATL, Bieber clears a few things up.
By Christina Garibaldi (@ChristinaMTV)

Justin Bieber is promising there will be "no more monkey business."

http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/172...-protest.jhtml

On Monday (February 24) the singer posted a humorous photo of himself leaning up against a gorilla statue, but all kidding aside, Bieber had some things that he wanted to clear up.
http://instagram.com/p/k0H4kvgvnC

Amid rumors that Bieber was leaving Los Angeles behind to reside in Atlanta, a morning show in Atlanta decided to put together a fake neighborhood protest, which many news outlets reported on as factual news story. Bieber decided to call out the media who fell for the prank saying he was "sad" that the media "doesn't believe in fact checking anymore."

Bieber went on to Tweet that he loves Georgia, but, despite the fact that the posh community of Atlanta's Buckehead neighborhood would welcome Bieber, he "never even looked at that house."

Well with that settled, Bieber shifted his attention back on the thing he does best, his music.

Hey JB: help make it happen; make another song like "Pray"
-Eric the Green

I'll add this here just so I don't make another post: Jeopardy has been kind to JB the last few years; he has come up often as an "answer." Today, it was Final Jeopardy. The category was "singers." I thought, I doubt it, but it could be Justin Bieber. Lo and behold, the answer is: "This singer was the first to have five #1 albums on Billboard before the age of 19." Those of you who have read this thread know the answer (or er, a, "question") to that one. But all the contestants missed it! Go JB! I'm glad to see they didn't delete this after his troubles; perhaps the show was recorded before they happened. And it confirms my desire to catch up a little on my abysmal knowledge of pop culture, so I can get more Jeopardy "answers" right!

I'd like to shut this down, Rags, but I'm just not enough of a geek yet. I would like to set up a blog so that others can comment, as well as me just posting stuff. My knowledge of programming websites is primitive, and I don't want to pay for it, or do it for money with all the legal hassles that involves. I might have a small audience for it, since people google for sites about JB. Obviously I have no audience here for it, which surprises me, since people can find this thread through google too. Maybe it's just buried under the avalanche of other Justin Bieber sites.

Susan's accusation against me of pedophila is reprehensible. I admit we disagree about 3T and 4T music, and I understand that it's her opinion, and she's welcome to it, as are all people welcome to theirs. She wants me to be open to her opinions. But she does not understand mine, and is not open to it. That's her right too. But accusations and flame wars are not OK.

Bieber and 1D are the best artists of the 4T.

I posted a similar picture for Justin above. This one is dedicated to Susan:

The lyrics to this new great song by JB are hard to understand, but they're great too. Probably based on the movie ET, though I don't remember the movie too well.

I mit'a known... this is the only Journals song to be produced and arranged by Nasri Atweh and Adam Messinger (the Messengers), the same duo who arranged "Pray", "All Around the World," "Mistletoe" and "Believe."

Arthur Chu Wins Again at Jeopardy, But Confuses Britney Spears and Justin Bieber

By Nancy Ramsey
Feb 26, 2014 8:12pm

Who is Barack Obama, NYC Mayor Giuliani, Sen. Daniel Inoyue, New Orleans’ French Quarter? This evening on Jeopardy, now-seven-time winner Arthur Chu won again.

And up until the Final Jeopardy question, he almost got ‘em all, but he stumbled on Britney Spears and Justin Bieber.
The Cleveland native is described on his Twitter account as a “mad genius, comedian, actor, and freelance voiceover artist broadcasting from the distant shores of Lake Erie.” Tweets have noted that he’s made Cleveland proud.
But on the final answer, “Only solo artist to have 5 billboard No. 1 albums before the age of 19,” Chu answered, “Who is Britney Spears?” (So did another contestant, while a third suggested Shirley Temple.)

Alas, it was Justin Bieber. Pay more attention to those police blotters, Mr. Chu, even if it’s not a category on Jeopardy.
But Chu still won overall, with $180,000 in his coffer, and host Alex Trebek assured fans, He’ll go at it tomorrow.

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/entertai...justin-bieber/

Bieber made it to final jeopardy yet again today (March 19, 2014). The answer was something like, "beating out newcomers Bieber and Lady Gaga, this artist earned the most money in 2013." The correct question was, "Who is Madonna?" 2 out of 3 contestants got it right, but again, the new champ was wrong.

Justin Bieber has most weeks at #1 on the Social 50 chart at 73, including 24 in a row, since it was started in Dec.2010.
Rihanna has been #1 for 21 weeks, and Miley Cyrus 16.

Oh, here I go again with another post about Justin Bieber.

He may not be getting as many gigs and interviews on TV lately, but he sure gets mentioned on game shows, which I like to watch. And it's always funny. On a Family Feud episode I saw tonight, a family was asked something like "when you get to heaven, name someone you don't want to see there." A young guy said "my least-favorite pop star." The host Steve Harvey gently prodded him to say who that is. I knew what he was going to say. "Justin Bieber." "Justin Bieber!" repeats Harvey. Buzz. Strike, not on the survey. Correct answers included "My Ex" and "The Boss."

On Jeopardy, as in the above post, he always gets treated well. Today on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, a question was something like "This website with the name of a classic TV show presents songs like "Baby" and "One Time."
The contestant said he wasn't sure, but he knew the name of the classic TV show, and he knew that Bieber did a song called "Baby." "You have all the Bieber albums" Cedric asked him (laugh laugh). After some hesitation, he answered C: Leave it to Bieber. He went on to win $250,000.

Here it is: http://leaveittobieber.com/

Here is a new very-short mashup of Mrs. Cleaver and Justin's infamous recent deposition:
http://youtu.be/hXNXMc8ntEI

Remember I just posted in the new Millennial Momentum thread that Morley Winograd and Michael D. Hais said, "Well, in all sorts of areas, in entertainment, for example, the style and tone of American entertainment is going to change from the kind of harsh, rap-oriented type of music that we’re used to, to a softer, but much more optimistic kind of music."

Bieber is the leader of this new 4T/millennial trend. But many Xer and older millennial guys are resisting this trend, just like older voters are resisting Obama and the new more liberal politics that a 4T brings and that millennials favor. My theory is that it's the same thing. They are resisting the new season. Just as tea party reactionaries want to cling to their Reagan-era slogans and ideologies, so Xers and older millennial guys want to cling to their Reagan-Bush era harsh, brash, negative, abrasive, cynical metal/punk/rap music and cannot accept that their era is over-- to be replaced by the softer and more-upbeat music typical of a 4T era. So they hate Justin Bieber and probably One Direction, Owl City, Katy Perry and other younger pop artists who are making this new 4T music. They may not even like "Happy" (the current #1, and my current favorite). But younger pop-star guys like Austin Mahone and Cody Simpson see Bieber as the leader of their genre, and very-young guys on you tube like Matty B and Johnny O sing his songs.

Enjoy these two very innovative songs, even if his voice doesn't appeal to you as much as metal screaming does:

Memphis: http://youtu.be/RUqQUUxHfNY

What's Hatnin': http://youtu.be/kwx0P-C8y9Q

He could be creating a veritable chest of hidden treasures.

I like Owl City, sometimes I like Katy Perry (but despise her way-overplayed cliche-ridden song "Roar"--it's kind of hit or miss with her; if we're talking female-empowerment anthems, both "Brave" by Sara Bareilles and "What Doesn't Kill You" by Kelly Clarkson are both much better songs). I'm not too familiar with 1D but I don't think I like them much. I agree with you about "Happy" though. Also loved "Get Lucky," which I think you said you liked too.

...when the definition [of "young and trendy"] is changed to something else, say "Homie", then "Millennial" ... becomes something to describe middle aged old farts who are too fat to fit into their hipster skinny jeans ... and refuse to wear anything that isn't argyle. The same thing happened to the Glorious Generation fops, by the 1720s they were no longer seen as "young, witty, and with it" but as aging witless father figures. -- Chas88

So we agree on those two. Very 4T-typical songs, and very popular.

Yes, Perry is hit or miss, and not too wide a margin on either side. So that leaves JB and 1D for you to learn to like. My theory is (wrong; deleted). I have posted and discussed that 1D song "Best Song Ever" unteem times. You could easily have been familiar with it. It's a great song, and it made me a fan. And everything they did in 2013 was good. Everything before that, except for one song, was not too good IMO (and even with that one (their most popular and earliest hit), it took better covers of it to get me to appreciate the song, which even they only sing on too). Sometimes people forget that an artist can change and grow, especially a young artist. To dismiss him/her/them once and for all is not really fair to the artist; still less to yourself. I didn't like One Direction; I changed my mind!

And JB is doing things very different from his most well-known songs now. But everything he does or has done has good melody, arrangement, even vocal performance (though not to your taste) and sometimes maybe lyric too. That's the amazing thing about him. You wouldn't think so (and many don't), but he's brilliant. To know about an artist, you do need to listen. The listeners need to grow along with the artist. As much as I like Baby Baby, he's way beyond that now. If his career is not interrupted, he will develop even more. He is a man to watch for sure. JB doing psychedelic music? What's next?

No-one can really do Pray like Justin Bieber, but sometimes to appreciate a good song a cover helps, if you don't think you like the original artist. This is a nice one:

Justin Bieber is about to score a very sweet plea deal in his Miami Beach DUI case ... TMZ has learned.

Sources familiar with the case tell TMZ ... prosecutors have backed off the DUI, resisting arrest and driving without a license charges, and they are working out a deal with Bieber's lawyers for the singer to plead no contest to reckless driving. The 3 charges will be dropped.

And this is the critical part ... prosecutors have backed off their demand for random drug testing ... something Bieber's lawyers would NEVER agree to for obvious reasons.

Bieber would not be entirely out of the woods ... he would be placed on probation -- it appears for 1 year -- which means he'd have to keep his nose clean.

We're told the deal could be finalized in days.

I drop in after a hiatus and I see lots of new stuff from Eric. [I did JB a favor and spelled "always" correctly for you.

What's that black thingie, [♛ ] ?

* 1 dum dum award for JB who can't spell "always". We're talking 2nd grade spelling lists here, sheesh.

* 1 dum dum award for JB who obviously hasn't learned how to operate a belt yet. The purpose of belts is to hold your pants up such that your underwear or if you're weird, nakedness is hidden.

There's an annual contest at Bond University, Australia, calling for the most appropriate definition of a contemporary term:
The winning student wrote:

"Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and promoted by mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a piece of shit by the clean end."

His belt seems to be working OK for this gig!
The new model of Justin for 20 years old emerging?

Justin Bieber Spent HOW MUCH On A Charity?! Find Out Why He Did It!

Justin Bieber gave a ton of money at the amfAR gala!
This is what we like to see out of him!
Justin Bieber has been getting lots of publicity for his antics lately, so this is refreshing!
The 20-year-old popped over to the amfAR Gala in Cannes and got really involved with the cause!
In fact, at the gala, one man pledged $545,000 to help fight AIDS and The Biebs matched it, despite people asking him if that’s really what he wanted to do.
When he said yes, other celebs like Leonardo DiCaprio, Sharon Stone, and John Travolta were in awe of the young philanthropist. Bieber added that he just felt like doing a good deed!
We’re so proud of Justin for doing this! If you can’t spend your money on good causes, what’s the point?!
Oh yeah, and did we mention how contemporary, yet handsome, he looked (above)?

And I pray,-- ay-ay!
