"Hi, Everybody!"

Just wanted to introduce myself. Read 4T a couple of years ago and been a lurker on the forums for a while now. The discussions on here are fascinating and enlightening and I'd like to be a part. I'm a crossover Gen X'er/Millenial myself and find it interesting the myriad views found via generational perspective both on this forum and IRL.
Thanks for having me.

Welcome to the forum!
To recommend thrift to the poor is both grotesque and insulting. It is like advising a man who is starving to eat less.

Welcome! You seem to have the urban/rural thing under control. Where in the Blue Ridge, if you don't mind saying?
Marx: Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, diagnosing it incorrectly and applying the wrong remedies.
Lennon: You either get tired fighting for peace, or you die.

That's right! I used that as an opener b/c I remember my (WWII-civic) Grandfather in the mid-90s, upon my bringing up The Simpsons during a family conversation (me, parents, sister, and grandparents) declaring "That show makes me want to vomit." None of us could counter his assessment, because, well, he was Grandpa and one of the "good citizens" from back then that couldn't be countered; it was his way, as most of that generation did, of declaring "I know what is right and well and that's the end of it." Looking back on it, it occurs to me how seminal the Simpsons was- my version of some forgotten serialization from the 30s he would take with him to the end, just as I will with it. I can almost imagine a scenario in the future where my grandkid wholeheartedly endorses some seemingly vapid tripe, which I cast aside without a second thought, while expounding on the artistic virtues of that piss-mop yellow rag that ran on these things called "television networks".
Also, makes me wonder what my WWII granddad would make of some of the stuff from Adult Swim & Comedy Central!
