Could someone check my forum and make sure there aren’t any spelling errors? Now that I’ve got the forum more or less set up I’m going to begin PMing members who have been active in the past year but not since the announcement of the forum closure to let them know that the forum is closing and the location of the new forum, hopefully they have email notifications turned on. If anyone is in contact with any semi-active forum members please let them know about the new forums.

I understand his changing focus and his right to shut the site down. It is not clear why Howe had to force this action on such a short schedule.

Dear Neil,

I have greatly enjoyed T4T and 13th Gen since the early 90s. Your writing helped add a layer to my social analysis and I am intellectually the richer for it.

Thank you also for hosting this forum for - I don't even know how long I've been here - I have made some wonderful friends and had many truly stimulating conversations.

If you ever would like a generations minded Xer sociologist on your team please please please hit me up.

Mike

Turchin's theories is misspelled

I tried to make a post and kept getting thrown off to a link I was putting in. So I'll write up the post in Word and paste it in. I did not see any post edit feature. Is that correct? If so all the more reason to write everything in word and then paste the final product.

At the very least we need to archive all of these posts. Despite all of the heated arguments, there were a lot of great points raised here, plus a lot of great research done by the various members over the years. I'd hate to see that all disappear.

I fixed the spelling, there is an edit feature at the top of the post next to tags. Not sure what was happening on your post that sounds strange.

I hate to see the many interesting discussions disappear too. In a nutshell this is the weakness of the web. Because nothing is permanent, there is little incentive to spend a lot of time on coherent thoughts, through I do appreciate those who have gone though the trouble.

So it seems that the rumors are true!
My feelings about generational theory were initially positive, but after seeing countless examples of generational bigotry on this forum (yes some of which I'm sorry to say that I participated in) I'm not sorry to see it go.
Thanks Classic Xer and same to you. To you and the other friends I've made here, you know how to reach me if you want to. To the rest, adios!

So does anyone know if there are plans to archive this forum so that we can still read and access all the old posts?

I just sent emails to every member who has more than 100 posts and has been active within the past but not since Neil Howe’s announcement to let them know about the new forum. That’s 45 people in total (I may have missed a couple by mistake and I missed one intentionally). I hope I didn't come across as a spammer.

I added a forum where people could move their old posts from this board if they’d like.

I don’t think there are any planes; I’ve created a forum where people can repost whatever they like. There are ways to import a forum without database access but that would require someone with more technical knowledge than I have.

Thanks for creating the new forum.

It does seem hard to use. So far I have been unable to use it. The posted links don't work, and I can't divide up a quoted post to reply to sections of it. It might take a tutorial for each poster.

I would like to have the global warming thread posted to the new forum. I see that you have posted a thread, but if I tried to do it, it probably wouldn't work. And the links in the thread that you posted there do not work.

I wonder if someone is in a position to just take over this forum, as is, using this vBulletin program. Does it cost money, and how much? How would that be done? Can someone talk to Neil Howe about this? How can he be reached other than on twitter?

I'll see what I can do. It's free and doesn't require any tech skills to set up, I needed to act quickly so I set it up. I could set up a better forum it would cost about $40 a year, I'm willing to pay that much the main problem is I lack the tech skills to set up and run a site. Once a forum like that is set up it doesn't need much maintenance day to day but there needs to be someone on stand-by in case something goes wrong.

If Neil Howe were to share the database he'd be liable if someone misused it, I'd doubt he'd be willing to do it.

Have you had any response from Howe on your concept for the forum?

Bye folks. Migration is not going to happen. It would have had to start by now. Most likely all the knowledge, links and info here will go to "data oblivion" later this month. Facebook killed the discussion forum.

Invitation to join Generational Dynamics forum

To all Fourth Turning Forum members:

With the Fourth Turning Forum about to be killed on May 16, I'd like
to invite everyone to join the Generational Dynamics forum.

http://gdxforum.com/forum/index.php

Some people here have already been members for years.

The sub-forum names are similar to the ones here but I'd be happy to
add new sections, or even a "Fourth Turning" sub-forum, if there's a
request. Let me know what you need and I'll try to provide it.

The next issue is transferring threads.

I'm in the process of writing a program that will save an entire
thread from this forum if it's fed the URL of the thread.

Since I haven't been active around the whole forum, except in the
"Generational Dynamics World View" thread, I really don't know which
threads are important to people.

So I'm requesting that you let me know what threads you'd like me to
save. Please provide both the name of the thread and the URL for the
thread, as in this example:

Generational Dynamics World View
http://www.fourthturning.com/forum/s...ics-World-View

Just post a list of the threads that you want saved, and I'll save
them.

I'm not sure yet how I'm going to display them. I have to figure out
the best way I want to do that. There are issues having to do with
attachments and links.

The important thing is that I want to get all the thread data
collected before May 16. That way I'll have all the data, even if I
haven't figured out how to display the pages before May 16.

I'm still really bummed out that this forum is being killed. All we
can do is make the best of a bad situation.

Best wishes to all.

John J. Xenakis

Does anyone here know how to contact JordanGoodspeed outside of the forum? Of the posters that haven’t been active recently he’s the only one that I I’m worried about losing.
