With the Fourth Turning Forum about to be killed on May 16, I'd like
to invite everyone to join the Generational Dynamics forum.

http://gdxforum.com/forum/index.php

Some people here have already been members for years.

The sub-forum names are similar to the ones here but I'd be happy to
add new sections, or even a "Fourth Turning" sub-forum, if there's a
request. Let me know what you need and I'll try to provide it.

The next issue is transferring threads.

I'm in the process of writing a program that will save an entire
thread from this forum if it's fed the URL of the thread.

Since I haven't been active around the whole forum, except in the
"Generational Dynamics World View" thread, I really don't know which
threads are important to people.

So I'm requesting that you let me know what threads you'd like me to
save. Please provide both the name of the thread and the URL for the
thread, as in this example:

Generational Dynamics World View
http://www.fourthturning.com/forum/s...ics-World-View

Just post a list of the threads that you want saved, and I'll save
them.

I'm not sure yet how I'm going to display them. I have to figure out
the best way I want to do that. There are issues having to do with
attachments and links.

The important thing is that I want to get all the thread data
collected before May 16. That way I'll have all the data, even if I
haven't figured out how to display the pages before May 16.

I'm still really bummed out that this forum is being killed. All we
can do is make the best of a bad situation.

Best wishes to all.

OK, I grabbed all 229 pages of the Global Warming thread:

Global Warming
http://www.fourthturning.com/forum/s...Global-Warming

but I don't know where to find the others you mention. Keep in
mind I rarely look at other threads besides the "Generational
Dynamics World View" thread, so I have no idea what you're referring
to. Or, I could guess, but I might guess wrong.

OK, the program that I wrote is working fantastically well, and I've
grabbed all the pages of those threads with no problem.

Is there a consensus on one approach for a new forum or are there multiple plans?

Odin, Eric, Maryposa, XY_MOX, Taramarie,Earl and Mooch, y'all have posts on that thread. I'd like to know if y'all want me to keep your posts there. I'll operate on the default opt out way. I'll assume you want your posts deleted , unless I get prior authorization to keep them.

Hi guys, I set up a better new board at http://generational-theory.com/forum/ hopefully this will grow into the larger site I have planed. Since the Yuku board is free I won't be taking it down but I will end up locking the threads. Sorry about setting up two forums like this I just wanted to act quickly and Yuku was the fastest option.

It looks fantastic and a better layout too in comparison. I like that there are more categories there too as well as the boomers and new adaptives getting their own category. Well done.

Hey, Dan.

First, I want to commend you on taking the initiative of creating that website.
You're a good man.

I also think it might be productive to talk to some of the people that left and
figure-out some of the motivations behind why they chose to leave. Or not.

And, I guess lastly I want to thank all the people that I've had so much fun
interacting with(I really don't wanna make a list for fear of leaving someone
out, but I believe I can say with reasonable certainty that I remember pretty
much every interaction I've had on this message board). I'll miss you guys.

So, y'all take care and 'Be excellent to each other, and Party-on, dudes!'.

Later,

Prince

I hope it takes off. I've signed up & bookmarked it. I haven't had as much time to post as I'd like, but I'm usually lurking around and enjoying the discussions.

Three layers of authentication for sign-up is a one-time pain in the ass, but it should help protect from spam if you want to make the forum more open to the search engine. I think MyBB is generally better about that than, vBulletin, though.
Those words, "temperate and moderate", are words either of political cowardice, or of cunning, or seduction. A thing, moderately good, is not so good as it ought to be. Moderation in temper, is always a virtue; but moderation in principle, is a species of vice.

What was it about the authentication that you found difficult? I can make it easier to register at least for the next couple of weeks when people will be migrating.

Will sign up later today. I won't be making a lot of substantial posts until next Monday because I am still at my mom's recovering from a staph infection and I suck at typing on her laptop.

The Fourth Turning Forum has always been a combination of two things
-- a place to discuss serious generational theory, and a social club
for flame wars and social discussions. When I joined, there was a
balance between the two. But today, most of the serious discussion
has been sidelined, and what's left is mostly a social club
for millennials.

The Generational Dynamics forum is almost entirely a serious place.
That's not to say that social club conversations are restricted in any
way. It's just the discussions and the mood are so dystopian that
it's not the best atmosphere for social club discussions, and people
who contribute are more serious and usually older than millennials,
although there are several millennials who have been contributing to
the serious discussions.

In my earlier discussion with Taramarie I said that taking over the FT
forum would be nothing but grief. I was referring mainly to the
social club types of conversations. I've gotten pretty good over the
years at mediating flame wars, but I hate having to do it. It now
appears that Dan'82 is going to take over that role. I wish him good
luck. He's going to need it.

For those who wish to have serious, non-social-club discussions of
current events and generational theory, I would appreciate your
considering your posting in the Generational Dynamics forum -- or in
both forums if you're so inclined.

http://gdxforum.com/forum/index.php

The second issue has to do with old FT forum threads. As I said
before, I'm collecting threads so I'll have all the data before
Neil Howe kills everything on May 16.

I've pretty much decided that I'm going to provide them in a separate
place independent of the Generational Dynamics forum. This means that
they'll be readily available to members of both that forum and
Dan'82's forum. I'm doing this as a public service. That should make
everyone happy, and will be a valuable resource to the hundreds of
people who have been supporters of the FT forum for two decades.

I'll try and collect some of what I consider to be the main threads
but there are way too many, so if you want one of them saved, then
give me the name and URL. Remember: Neil Howe is going to kill
everything on May 16, so don't wait too long.

(Mike, I'll even save your beloved Sean Love threads if you tell me
where they are.)

Sincerely,

John
