Silicon Valley's gas prices are going schizo. Some are dropping, e.g. I've seen my first $2.85 in a long while, and I've seen some stations recently drop a few cents.

BUT . . some other stations are going up. My local station is a case in point. They were at $2.97 for three weeks and yesterday popped up to $3.03.

Our spread is now pretty large. Weird.

Well, after looking around the stations this morning:

We have in Austin a range of prices for regular unleaded with Citgo at the lowest with $2.79, a Shamrock with $2.83, and a Chevron which has now moderated to a $2.86.

Quite a range we have here.

EDIT: Found a Chevron station with $2.74 from somewhere else in town. Wow.

Bit more expensive in the Big City.

Auckland has it at NZ$1.61/L = US$4.27/gal

I paid below $2.90 last Sunday; the least I've paid since Katrina. It was at the "cheap" Hess station, but most of the other gas stations are posting prices in the $2.90s.

Premium is still over $3.00 in Northern Virginia.

All the stations in my neighborhood are around $2.60-$2.65, but some in other areas are ten to twenty cents higher.

Regular unleaded ranges between $2.71 to $2.79 for the past few days. Nothing new here.

Gas in the DC area is going down, down, down. I filled up the other day, paying $2.55 9/10ths per gallon. DC is now just at the national average.

They attribute this decline to a drop in demand. Meanwhile, subway/bus ridership is up 10 percent.

The closest Sheetz is $2.199 for regular and $2.399 for premium. The big trucks and SUVs are back.

Slow decline in prices.

Average around $2.59 where I live. I saw a Citgo near campus sell it for $2.49.

Let's not be complacent however.

The Chevron lowered its prices to 2 95 9/10 a week ago and has stayed there since... but the other station - although it has higher prices for Plus and Premium, has been lowering its Regular prices so fast that it's two cents lower!

The 76 station at 39th and Main is still at $2.59/69/79, but the Arco across the street just started undercutting them by 20 cents!

$2.49 at most stations near me.

Traveled on a field trip to central central Texas and saw rural stations selling it as low as $2.27.

We're now cheaper than you in Northern Virginia, hon. I paid $2.399 at a gas station near the Office Depot this morning.

We have crossed the $2 line, and have some stations selling Regular in the $1.97 range. We'll have to see whether this is an anomoly or not.
