Down to $2.32 at the Chevron/Tetco. Seen prices up to three cents lower than the benchmark elsewhere in town.

Three cuts in the past week and the Chevron now sells gas at $2 75 9/10
of course... the ending digits are now always 9s and 5s...
Now at $2.21.
I wonder if the price would rise some when the Thanksgiving holiday rolls in where people will be doing a lot of traveleing . . .

It's ranging between $2.19 and $2.27 here, depending on the station.
Between $2.04 and $2.09 here.

I have a favor to ask the heavyweight economists of this forum -- Mike Alexander, John Xenakis, etc. -- about where the gasoline money goes. Recent reports are saying that the difference between today's gas prices and those during the peak period is about 88 cents per gallon. Does anybody know how to break this 88 cents down into where it went? Whose pockets it went into? When I multiple 88 cents times all the gallons of gas purchased during the peak-cost period I would expect to see a whole lot of money ... a whole lot! I'd sure like to know who made off with the different pieces of the pie.
I would pay you in kind compliments for a simple pie chart that showed me where the money went. And if there is a slice of that pie that went into the pockets of American pocketbook predators I'd like to hang them out to dry.
Why hasn't this been done before. This pie chart should appear on the cover of the WSJ.

Of course, when I was back in Maryland for a few days... prices ranged from 2 13 9/10 to 2 23 9/10 (which looked very cheap by California standards!)
Ours are now down to $2.09/2.19/2.29.

Between $2.03 and $2.09 for regular at most gas stations. Quite stable for the last week or so.

Regular gas is now back below $2.00 per gallon in my neck of the woods too!
I'm still paying about $2.25 to fill the Beamer with premium, though.

It rose now, probably because it's winter. The benchmark station is at $2.19.

Gas in the DC area seems to be between $2.38 and 2.45 a gallon. It seems to go up by 5 cents each week; this has been going on since Thanksgiving, when it bottomed out at around $2.15.

Prices I have observed in Massachusetts have been broadly similar to Wonkette's... current prices seemed to be around $2.25 in December, and are back up to $2.35-$2.40 again in January. Given these numbers, I would not be surprised to see $3 gas again come this summer.
As an aside, prices in Mississippi over Christmas were also in the $2.20-$2.30 range. I'm not sure how much of that is an effect of reduced Louisiana output and how much is price gouging from a local distribution oligarchy, but it's an interesting datum.

It will indeed be interesting to see what happens to gasoline prices come April and May, when we will be on the verge of the next summer. I have said many times that gas prices are likely to continue to rise as long as nothing is done to discourage driving. Seems as if we don't have the stomach for that one, for whatever reasons. I heard yesterday that the city of Rome has now experimented with car-free Sundays. I doubt if any US city would dare come on board with that one, or would we? And how come we have refused to do much if anything to reduce auto dependency?

After getting down to about $2.25 last month, gas has been steadily rising in the DC area. It hit $2.50 last week, and in Montgomery County, I was seeing gas sell for $2.74.
How about elsewhere?
