I saw $1.57 yesterday here in my "new" city
Geez. We're at $1.859/1.959/$2.059 here in Vancouver... and apparently we're still paying more than in other places.
I was half-kidding when I said we could see gas back down to a buck a gallon again. Now I'm not so sure. What I am sure is that while the return of cheap gas should be occasion for rejoicing, in today's climate it feels... ominous. Like everything else.
Apparently I'm not alone. That, I suspect, is why even those still shopping for cars aren't lining up for big SUVs again... and driving to East Hell And Back in them. We're simply relieved for the momentary respite.

the prices in Vancouver you mentioned seem pretty much average. Around here, it varies beween $1.57 and $1.72 from what I've seen over the last 24 hours.
I pretty much agree with you though. I figure I'll enjoy it while it lasts! It's pretty friggin sweet being able to fill my tank for under ten bucks!
I've seen gas as low as $1.66 around here. Still, Kevin's right. If we were in the market for a new car, I'd be looking at Cooper Minis or Smart For Twos, as opposed to monster SUVs or pickups - even with gas down where it is now.
What worries me about the price collapse is that all the green alternative energy projects have been shelved because in the current time, they don't make economic sense. However, if we don't start up soon, in the long run, our goose is cooked.

That's why the Obama administration needs to enact something like the energy tax Gore proposed in 2000. If we increase the gas tax by 5 cents a year for ten years and dedicate the revenues to alternetive energy, it will provide the seed money for the one thing we will need more than the cheap gas, which is likely to get expensive again as the middle east remains unstable over the next few years, that thing that we need is new unoutscorceable jobs.
-Now [8 DEC] at $1.559/gallon.
I paid $1.599 in suburban Milwaukee this morning.
While driving around the NE part of the city this morning, I noticed prices ranging from $1.49 to $1.65

Two items:
1) the station where I get gas dropped their price twice yesterday, from $1.69 to $1.63, then to $1.59.
2) reports online have it that gas in Roanoke, Va. is $.98 - back where it was when Dubya was inaugurated eight years ago!
Maybe the rest of us aren't all the at far behind Roanoke.
The ruble falling faster than the dollar seems to have done a little bit of good in this neck of things. We had gas nominally drop down as of the beginning of the year, where it is sitting for right now. But with us at 32.93rubles to the 1USD (That's the highest it has been since the default Last time it was this high was a brief spike up to 32.57 in December '01) the 23.3rub/L we're paying comes off as $2.678/gal.
That's a bit higher than in the States, but compares really, really well to the 1.10-1.30Euro/L ($5.53 - $6.53/gal) that we saw in Europe.

Albuquerque: the latest fillup was at $1.689 per gallon - I got lucky and caught it just before it went up to $1.799. The one before that had been at $1.469. This looks like a real bounceback, not a dead cat bounce.
People in New Mexico are torn both ways because a large part of the state government's income is from oil and gas taxes.

Prices dipped down again, and the ruble continues to fall faster than the USD. I filled up today at 21.5rub/L = $2.43/gal.

We've been holding at $1.999 for at least a week now.
