Same out here. It's way cheap right now, not sure why. I should fill up on the way to the dentist, but it means going out of my way. Maybe on the way back.

1) I haven't bought gas this year. If I'm not taking the bus, I bicycle or walk.
2) This is the most expensive I've ever seen it:
...after a hurricane disrupted supplies for about a week.
Tennessee has cheap gas, despite relatively high gas taxes.
$3.59 here in PA @ the cheap places, last I checked, which was Friday.

"There have always been people who say: "The war will be over someday." I say there's no guarantee the war will ever be over. Naturally a brief intermission is conceivable. Maybe the war needs a breather, a war can even break its neck, so to speak. But the kings and emperors, not to mention the pope, will always come to its help in adversity. ON the whole, I'd say this war has very little to worry about, it'll live to a ripe old age."
I'm ending Day 1 in Rock Springs, Wyoming -- 1,019 miles from the last time I saw the ocean. Gas price data collection is turning out to be a bit trickier than I had hoped -- lots of stations don't have their prices easily visible from the highway, and there has been a bit of a learning curve in the whole driving-while-writing-price-and-mileage.
Nevertheless, here is what I saw today:
More tomorrow. For now... sleep.

Day 2. I'm stopping for the night between Concordia and Columbia, MO. Had to take a bit of a backcountry detour in Iowa, so that one has more miles and fewer stations than it probably should. I notice that Nebraska actually follows a pretty predictable pattern! I wasn't expecting anything like that to happen...
Tomorrow I hope to make it to south Georgia, if not north Florida. So one more chart still to come.

I notice you have several different sorts of marks. Could you explain the difference? Are they brand names, or what?

Gas is down at 3.48 at gallon in South Carolina.

According to Gas Buddy on my iPhone, the cheapest in my town is $3.88 and the highest is $4.03.
About a month ago, the cheapest in my area was $4.12 or something in that range. It's gone down which is good.
I remember a couple years ago, the price of gas shot down and was $1.85 in my area. We thought it would last, unfortunately it didn't and started to go back up again after Obama was elected.
But the most expensive gas has ever been in my town was $4.70 after Hurricane Rita hit Texas in 2005 and the price for diesel at that time was over $5!

My apologies to Badger. The pictures are just screencaps from Excel. The legends are auto-generated off to the far right of each chart. The symbols go as follows:
Chart 1: WA-OR-WA-OR-ID-UT-WY
Chart 2: WY-NE-IA-MO
Chart 3 (below): MO-IL-KY-TN-GA
Not quite as far as I had hoped today -- I got caught in St. Louis morning traffic and winged by Atlanta evening traffic (thank god only winged, or I'd still be up there). So that's 3000 miles since Tuesday morning, if we're keeping count. Since I'm in Valdosta tonight (only like 10 miles from the GA-FL border), all that will be left to add from my last couple hours tomorrow morning will be Florida. So no legend for that one.

Last little leg is done. I'm in Tampa now.
Here's day 4:
And here's the whole thing in one shot:
So there you have it. Gas prices from 14 to 17 June 2011, as visible from OR/WA Hwy30, then I84, then I80, then NE/IA Hwy2, then I29, then I435, then I70, then I64, then I57, then I24, then I75.
If it makes enough sense to make this a longterm thing, I'll be flying back to Washington in late August, then driving our other car with Andi and the boys down here at the beginning of September. That time, we'll go down I5, cut through Death Valley, Tuscon, and then use I10 along the Gulf. It's a bit longer, but the kids have never seen cactus before.
Anyway, for now, I've got stuff to get done here.
