How to spot a shill, by John Michael Greer: "What you watch for is (a) a brand new commenter who (b) has nothing to say about the topic under discussion but (c) trots out a smoothly written opinion piece that (d) hits all the standard talking points currently being used by a specific political or corporate interest, while (e) avoiding any other points anyone else has made on that subject."

About $3.75 in Alexandria, Virginia, where I tanked up this afternoon. However, I got a 20 cents/gallon discount using my grocery card.

"There have always been people who say: "The war will be over someday." I say there's no guarantee the war will ever be over. Naturally a brief intermission is conceivable. Maybe the war needs a breather, a war can even break its neck, so to speak. But the kings and emperors, not to mention the pope, will always come to its help in adversity. ON the whole, I'd say this war has very little to worry about, it'll live to a ripe old age."
$3.44 here in Fargo.
To recommend thrift to the poor is both grotesque and insulting. It is like advising a man who is starving to eat less.

$4.24 at a station about 5 miles from my house. Almost all other gas stations are above $4.10.
Judging from years past, I have a feeling gas prices are going to peak for the year, then start to fall or stabilize. However, I could be wrong.

Wow. Huge difference from here....
In the $4.15-$4.25 range around the Twin Cities. We've had a big spike in price the last few days, something to do with maintenance and transition from winter to summer fuels at a few refineries around the Midwest--which happens every year, but this is a bigger spike (50+ cents within a few days) than any I can remember. Minnesota right now has the highest average gas price among states in the continental US (something that to my knowledge has never been the case before), surpassing even California now. (Hawaii's still higher, as it's usually the highest due to where it is.)
Ouch.
Here's an article on it, with a map showing average fuel prices in the counties of the Lower 48 states.
