ISFP and 1974

Ok. Went to each link and took the tests. Here's what came up:

Kiersey- SP (that was it for that one)

Personality - ISTP or ISFP ( Had a tough time choosing between T and F)

Team Technology came up with ISFP too. I thought the Thinking and Feeling were close, but maybe it's iNt. and Sens.. They do have a box showing how you score for all the types. Here are mine in order;

ISFP - 295
INFP - 255
ESFP - 225
ISFJ - 211
ISTP - 207
ESTP - 185
ISTJ - 171
INTP - 167
ESFJ - 141
ENFP - 137
INFJ - 123
ENFJ - 101
ENTP - 97
INTJ - 83
ESTJ - 53
ENTJ - 13

There was also this at the end:
Fe - 8
Fi - 22
Ne - 7
Ni - 7
Se - 15
Si - 15
Te - 0
Ti - 14

Am I the only one who tested strongly for a SP?

Jessie, this is the sort of thing I was looking for. Where did you find this?

The benefit is that it isolates your dominant function. Yours is clearly Fi which automatically means that you are either INFP or ISFP, one or the other. So we then try to find your auxiliary in the extraverted perceiving functions and your Se strongly surpasses your Ne. Therefore, you appear to be an ISFP. So we do not get stuck with Keirsey's sliding scales for I/E and J/P.

Neisha: if you really want to pin down your type, I would take this test wherever it may be. Minimally, it will isolate your dominant function and leave you with two type possibilities.

ISFP

Tv - Buffy the Vampire Slayer is the only current show I watch. I was a big X-Files fan in the past, but I've since lost interest. Practically anything on the History channel, TLC, or Discovery.

I also watch Cheers, and Family Ties on Nick-at-Nite. Love it. Currently Classic VH1 is my new fav. I can not stop watching it when I'm home. Some Tv-Land thrown in for good measure. Married with Children is also a favorite, so was Quantum Leap and Moonlighting.

In the past I was a big Sc-fi/horror fan, and I suppose I still am. Although, I don't watch it as much as I once did. I love the Twilight Zone, and ST:TNG will always be my favorite Star Trek series. I also liked Highlander, and a few odd horror/sci-fi shows over the years. But I can't stand Babylon 5. I know, it's blasphemy to say such a thing, but I really couldn't stand that show. DS9 was another one I hated.

Favorite Movies: Psycho, Gladiator, Little Shop of Horrors, Aliens, Back to the Future, Buckaroo Banzaii across the 8th Dimesion, Grosse Pointe Blank, and others. Basically I like action/sci-fi/horror movies, and musicals. But I'll give most anything a try at least once.

Music - eh! Mostly rock from all decades. But I draw the line at the 90's. I hate grunge. No surprise there! Roy Orbison, Supremes, Bruce Springsteen, Smithereens, The Cure, Clash, Kiss, Cream, Pink Floyd, Scorpions, Motley Crue, GNR, and so on. Also like Scott Joplin, and some classical.

It was your link to Team Technology. Once you take their version of the test the results pop up in a seperate window.

Okay, when I take the test, I ordinarily swing between ENTP and ENTJ.

I took the teamtechnology test:

INTP - 187
INFP - 165
ISTP - 161
ENTP - 131

surprising, since I always score nearly 100% on T vs F, and usually somewhere around 75-80% for E vs I.

The other scores are:

Fe 0
Fi 12
Ne 9
Ni 10
Se 4
Si 5
Te 2
Ti 14

Not sure what those mean...

OK, more confusion arises. I took the test and came out INFJ! Huh? So, basically, I am a strong intuitive and everything else is pretty much up in the air!

I tried the TeamTechnology version today, too. Normally on Kiersey and Meyers-Briggs, I come out as a very strong, no doubt-about it ISTJ.

This quiz pegs me as an ISFJ (though nearly an ISTJ).

My scores:
ISFJ 152
ISTJ 147
ESFP 131
ESTP 126
ISFP 119
ESFJ 110
ISTP 108
ESTJ 99
INFP 69
ENFJ 60
INTP 58
ENTJ 49
INFJ 42
INTJ 37
ENFP 21
ENTP 16

And my preference scores were:
Fe 6
FI 7
Ne 0
Ni 2
Se 10
Si 12
Te 5
Ti 6

Wes, did you find the questions odd? They ask you to place your preference on a continuum, but I found, with most quesitons, that the choices were almost equally either fine or distasteful. As a result, I was pretty much choosing randomly between two OK choices or two lousy choices.

OK, took it again to make sure. This time, I'm an ENTP. Hmmm . . . two different results on the same day. Weird.

Here's the breakdown:

ENTP 208
ENFP 198
INTJ 180
INFJ 170
ENTJ 124
ENFJ 102

For some reason, INTP doesn't appear on my list at all? Did I copy it wrong?

The Jungian functions are:

Fe 4
Fi 10
Ne 16
Ni 14
Se 2
Si 0
Te 6
Ti 12

Neisha:

I don't like the questions either. The results are not making sense. They have the right idea to assess the relative strengths of the functions, but it would be better if they ranked traits pertaining to each of the eight functions on a continuum, relative to a particular question...and then repeated for a series of questions. As it is, I'm not liking the opposing options and I am getting gibberish as a result. Oh well....

I think the questions are hard to design, especially for extreme intuitives. I have trouble with this sort of test because I tend to read too much into the questions to the point where the choices don't make sense. I keep thinking, well sometimes, option a is true, but I do recall that option b is true when I'm with my family, blah blah blah . . . I think it's especially true for intuitives who have any tendency at all toward being perceivers.

Even though I had a hard time placing myself on the continuum for more than half the questions, the test somehow did a good job of picking the four types whose descriptions match me the best: ENTP, ENFP, INTJ and INFJ. I wonder if these are the most intuitive of the 16 types. I have also had ENTJ and INTP come up when I have taken the test, but those descriptions don't sound very much like me.

I took the team technology test, and I came out as an INFJ!? Not only that, I actually scored higher on INFJ, INFP, and INTJ than an INTP. I just think that it should be very obvious that I am an INTP.

Let's design our own test -- there are so many Ns on this site that we should be able to do this easily.

Here's my stab at a beginning (stealing a bit from Robert). I could only come up with E/I, N/S, and P/J questions:

1. In order to take a break do you need to get away from the bustle of the world or do you need to find people to hang with?

2. Given a choice, would you rather spend big blocks of time in group activity or solitary activity?

3. What's more of a strain, sitting in a meeting for several hours or concentrating on one task by yourself for several hours?

4. What do you find more compelling, the present or the future?

5. Would you describe yourself as more fanciful or realistic?

6. Do you tend to focus on details or on the big picture?

7. Facts speak for themselves or illustrate a larger point?

8. You are more annoyed by people who can't seem to shut off their idea generators or people who can't think outside the box?

9. Stacks of paper on the floor are a mess or your personal filing system?

10. Most Saturdays are already booked with appointments you would rather not change or are pretty much unscheduled but busy anyway?

11. Do you enjoy supervising and/or directing the work of others or would you rather let everyone do their own thing and see what happens?

12. Do you like to know what your day will look like or do you not mind changes in plans on a regular basis?

OK guys, add, subtract and tweak to your heart's content!

Maybe I'm just weird, as when I saw the descriptions of Ne and Ni, I noticed that I actually used BOTH, equally.

One problem with the questions is that they are very vague and non-specific. For instance, they do not take into account circumstances, and your choice of answer will vary depending on your mood. If you were placing yourself at a party, at work, at school, alone, with your friends, with your mate, with your children, with your parents, early in the day, late at night, or whatever place, time, and circumstance you can imagine, your answers will vary dramatically. Your answers should vary little depending on these. As a result, this test is not reliable.

Robert, I got the same thing: INFJ. Give me a break! I am clear over to 95-100% T on Keirsey and there is no way I am a J. I kept fooling with the thing and kept coming up with F-types which makes absolutely no sense. Either the questions are not finding what they are seeking or there is a flaw in the way the test is calculating results.

BTW, I am an INTP and I know that you are one too.

So that's four of us who normally come out as strong Ts who took the test and came out Fs. (Although Robert and I both came out Ts the second time we took it.) We should probably let them know that there is a flaw.

Here's my stab at a beginning (stealing a bit from Robert). I could only come up with E/I, N/S, and P/J questions:
This test is very straight-forward. But do we test the letters or the Jungian components?

1. In order to take a break do you need to get away from the bustle of the world or do you need to find people to hang with?
I definitely need to get away from the bustle. In fact, my computer is my very best friend.

2. Given a choice, would you rather spend big blocks of time in group activity or solitary activity?
I like solitary activity, but can work in groups well. I am more apt to work with other Intuitives, especially Rationals. Most of what I do is very solitary.

3. What's more of a strain, sitting in a meeting for several hours or concentrating on one task by yourself for several hours?
After about 5 minutes in a meeting, my mind will start to wonder. However, I can work on a task by myself without stopping for anything, except for when nature calls. Most people don't understand how I can write C++ code continuously for over 10 hours.

4. What do you find more compelling, the present or the future?
I always think about the future.

5. Would you describe yourself as more fanciful or realistic?
I don't like the word fanciful. That's what someone who prefers sensing would say. My train of thought, imaginations, and visions are very real to me. A better word would be visionary.

6. Do you tend to focus on details or on the big picture?
I have to see the big picture first. Only then am I able to understand any details. So I focus on the big picture.

7. Facts speak for themselves or illustrate a larger point?
They illustrate a larger point.

8. You are more annoyed by people who can't seem to shut off their idea generators or people who can't think outside the box?
I absolutely cannot stand people who cannot think outside of the box. Actually, it's not someone who can't, per se, but someone who just refuses to do it.

9. Stacks of paper on the floor are a mess or your personal filing system?
My floor is the biggest shelf I have.

10. Most Saturdays are already booked with appointments you would rather not change or are pretty much unscheduled but busy anyway?
Unscheduled, but busy.

11. Do you enjoy supervising and/or directing the work of others or would you rather let everyone do their own thing and see what happens?
To me, this question is a matter of competence. If the people are competent, then I will let them do their own thing. If not, I will just find someone who is competent so that I won't have to direct them.

12. Do you like to know what your day will look like or do you not mind changes in plans on a regular basis?
Changes in my personal plans is second nature to me. If I made a plan, I will change it at moment's notice.
