As someone in my gen once said
"Dont believe everythingthat you breathe, you get a parking violation and a maggot on your sleeve".

Hi. I work as a journalist. Journalists are dumb fucks. They know nothing more than you do.
The 1977-79 starting points are based on birth numbers.
The 1980 birt year is chosen because it is th start of the 80s.
Honestly the only people you really can trust in this lamo business are historians and sociologists. they actually look at real data and study it.
Of course 1979 is going to have a bit of millie in it..Its 3 years from the break.
DUH.
But I kow my friends and family..and i know those kids I was hanging out with in 1985 in my driveway that were born in 1975, 76 etc are in my gen, and that those kids that were babies then (and most werent even in Kindergarten when the 90s started!)are not in my gen.
To me its that simple.
1979=X by default..like 1958, or 1941.

No offense, William, if you really are who you say you are, but I've been wondering for a while if your story was really true. Wasn't going to say anything, but since Stoner brought it up, what the hell.

I can explain this more later if you want, but I'll wait for now.

mmailliw

Hmmm.

All right, all right! I admit it! The reason I initially doubled that M in late 1999 (to create my standard online identity as mailliw was taken) was that it was the first letter of my last name! For my real identity, click here. http://216.239.39.100/search?q=cache...erson%22&hl=en
So THIS is my real identity (the only public site with both my full name and my photo); feel free to continue debating over whatever my past identities might have been. Although I will say that James E. F. Landau WAS an inspiration to me, and there are enough commonalities between the two - distrust of media and statistics (although I prefer to parody them!), creation of a "Generation Y" encompassing the early eighties come to mind; I could easily imagine Landau as Craig tho (in order to get 84 into X he might need to actually play a convincing 84 character)

And finally, for a VERY inclusive definition of Generation X (which you all seem to be debating at the moment), click here. http://www.wmich.edu/teachlearn/winter1999/

So, William, you were just saying that you would admit to any alter egos and are not actually someone else's alter ego? That is not hard to believe. I do not know why Vince would work so hard at it if he were posing as a Millie anyway. But I do wonder were Vince is.

XoE, you actually called Marc wrong on this one. He has complained about the "number of posts" thing before and invariably goes to lurking for a few days (to keep the numbers down) after doing so. He is actually very embarrassed by his numbers. Hence "Marc Lamb" and "Marc S. Lamb" (and others?).

Now you have him talking about hound dogs, for cryin' out loud! This is psychedelic! All we need are the weird, colorful, changing graphics in the background and quick zooms of the camera.

That is pretty weird. I went to that school back in the mid-80's and that is where I was first introduced to alternative music, punk rockers, dudes with purple mohawks, new wavers, heavy metal dudes and the general mix that was early wave Gen X. They had a music festival in the spring that featured a mix of bands and what a sight to see since it brought out all the sub-groups. Tattos, piercings, all colors of hair, mohawks and all of that was first appearing amoung Gen-x and it was evident at that festival.

That's what I always assumed; the "mailliw" part was obviously William spelt backwards, so the second M had to be there for SOME reason....William M.

I never imagined you looking like that. But I guess I never imagined you looking like anything.

Somehow I've never been convinced that you were Craig (even though you keep talking about it). The Jarvard bit just doesn't seem to flow. But I think that the fact that your first post mentioned Craig '84 made it sound less likely that you were Craig. Sometimes Justin '79 would start out by referring to Justin when he made a new character, and it took a while for me to figure out he was really a different deal.

I wouldn't confuse you with Justin though or you with Justin. If you claim in your next incarnation to be born in 1984, I'll assume it's you (or Craig. Or someone entirely new here). If it were Justin, he'd say he was born in 1979. And plus I can tell by the attitude towards 1981 or 1984 cohorts. If all this new poster does is whine about how different 1984 cohorts are because they don't remember late seventies TV shows, my Justin alarm is probably going to start going off.

By the way, happy birthday.

thx... but I guess you didn't remember Landau because you joined after he had pretty much disappeared (I read much of his YR stuff and was impressed) - I've never seen a photo, etc of Craig tho so the two could still be the same person (Landau, who wanted to get 84 into Generation X, could pose as an Xish 84 cohort instead to show what 84 cohorts are like)
and about the photo, would you have preferred to see the one that went on http://www.bangable.com ?

A Funny story

My friend lives in a dorm dominated by freshmen and sophomores. As a joke I wrote this on their bulletin board:

Dear Class of 2005,
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
...................Love, Class of 2002

Today while I was in the hallway, I heard two of the freshmen complaining about it, saying "Im really mad about that."

I was like "You didn't tear down my message, right?"

Then my friend (who coincidentally was also born in 1979) said "whoa, in 2005 there might be some one new in the White House"

I said "I hope so, we might have to all go vote this time".. (I think I was the only one of my friends who voted in the last election)

I said to the freshmen "Did you vote last time?"

Both of them had voted in 2000!!!!...aww a civic generation in the works

they just looked at me like I was a dumb ass.
Shit.

Hi, Kiff! I've been busy running my annual exercise in democracy and social feedback over on rec.arts.marching.drumcorps (RAMD). That always takes me off this forum in April and May. You and Stonewall just weren't around last year to see me drop off this forum. I'm back, in a limited capacity, as my access is restricted by my home connection being out of service. However, if you missed me, you still were seeing my handiwork elsewhere--I'm beating you by 168 points in Yahoo Survivor Pick'em. You could always leave me a message there!

Virgil, I think you're throwing up a Rohrschach blot to draw out some kind of confirmatory response, whether you actually know anything about why I was off T4T or not!

However, in a way, I was. While running the annual awards program on RAMD, I was not in a mood to spend time reading weighty social, political, and cultural discussion. Instead, I spent my time at surviiivor.com trying to improve my score at Survivor Pick'em and Surviiival. It worked. My scores are improving. Just ask Kiff.

And, no, I'm not William. If I want to be an Imposter/Stealth, I have one false identity here already. I'd use *him*. If not, I could always pretend to be an anime character. I wouldn't waste my time pretending to be a real person.

Heres a little letter I sent to USA Today after one of their "1946 to 1964" mentions:

I would just like to point out that although birth rates soared between 1946 and 1964, people born after around 1960 really don't fit into your special interest Boomer stories. The fact is, if 1964 were a Boomer year, most of the people we identify as Gen Xers, like Courtney Love, Janeane Garafolo, Jon Stewart, Eddie Vedder, and "Friends" stars Lisa Kudrow and Courtney Cox would really be "Baby Boomers."
I know you guys like to simplify things, but come on.

Ty, nice letter...but you know and I know that no one will waver on their definition of the boom. Even when they quote S & H more times than not people who wrote the article use the familiar '46 to '64 definition (which really should be '46 to '58 because after '58 birth rates started to drop). That definition is as American as apple pie. As crazy as that sounds (a Gen-Y kid born in '77 could easily have a sibling in the Boom), people are brainwashed and hence stick to the definition.

Dude,

We're not Gen-Y. I cringe every time I hear that term. It's so lame and characterless. It means nothing to me. Gen X is at least funny. it's like a codename for inside jokes and nasty attitudes. Gen Y is just so weak.
Fuck Gen Y. Fuck it right in the ear!
Man, I don't want to be in any generation except the Star Wars Generation, and that generation, I most certainly am in.

Ty.
