Denver, especially; the nightlife is killer. Hey, what do you expect? We have the Coors brewery. Anyway, I'd put the line at '81. Besides, I was a Carter baby; Reagan didn't win the election until November 4, 1980 (I was born in April), and he didn't take office until January 20, 1981. I don't know about you guys, but, I can't tell any difference in someone born in 1977, and someone born in 1980. We listen to the same music, talk about the same things, etc. At least my '77 cohort friend and I do. At any rate, there ARE two distinct waves of 13'ers; Generation X and Generation Y (Atari wave, Nintendo wave), whatever you want to call it. We're all 13'ers.

When I logged on tonight, smoke was coming out of the speakers on the computer, so someone must have been talking about a certain subject - and boy was I right! (Haven't been over here much lately because I've been too busy swimming with the sharks on the "Politics and Economics" thread - and they are sharks, truth be told!).

But anyway, a few things to clear up: As far as my "detesting" the '60s goes, you would never know it by browsing through my personal music collection, a near 100 hours' worth of songs dubbed off CDs and 45s onto a series of (mostly) 120-minute cassette tapes, with everything kept in strict chronological order (based upon when each song reached its peak position on Billboard's Hot 100). It runs from 1960 through 1989, and includes such "hippie" themed offerings as Jefferson Airplane's "White Rabbit" (for some reason I think of Tipper Gore every time I hear it!) and Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth" (although not Iron Butterfly's "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" due to the fact that I don't generally use "edits" on my collection and the 15-plus-minute LP version would have taken up too much space). That said, making a big thing about growing one's hair long or not seemed impractical and absurd to me growing up; once you're 18, 21, whatever, you can have it anyway you want, so why get into silly fights about it? You don't how many times I wanted to tell both my brother (a '55 cohort) and my father ('30) that they were both behaving like a pair of idiots!

Another point concerns the start date of the Boomers: Apparently this has been pushed forward to at least the 1941 cohort by 9/11 and the "Chicken Hawk" debate it has sparked - indeed, just a few days ago Dick Cheney's remark about "having other priorities in the '60s besides military service" appeared in print again.

And finally, just how convinced should we be about being in 4T currently? If we were in it beyond a reasonable doubt, the Republican leadership would be the laughing stock of the country with the kind of '80s-style tax cuts they are still pursuing (they should instead stick to what they do best - effecting regime changes!).
But maybe if the putative Robin Hoods stopped trying to take from law-abiding citizens and give to criminals, take from men and give to women, take from believers and give to anti-believers, take from citizens and give to "undocumented" immigrants, and take from heterosexuals and give to homosexuals, they might have a lot more success in taking from the rich and giving to everyone else.

Don't blame me - I'm a Baby Buster!

Surprisingly, I'm quite lenient on cigarettes. Except when it comes to my parents because I'm sick and tired of them coughing all the time. It's so annoying! But amongst my peers I don't care at all. My main gripe is alcohol.

And for the record, I don't actually want alcohol to be banned. I just hate underage drinking at all, and getting drunk no matter what your age. Drinking in moderation when at least age 21 is no problem at all. I plan to do that myself.
