America in 2020

You heard me.

In 2020, the 4T may be coming to a close (or at least inching near the climax), and it will have been 19 years since 9/11, 17 years since the beginning of the Iraq War, etc.

I will be 29 turning 30. Bill Clinton and George Bush will be 74. Barack Obama will be 59. Madonna, of course, will still be 26.

So, what will society look like? Politics? Pop culture? Fashion? Technology?

Go at it. I don't care whether you see Blade Runner Orwellian dysfunction, or a utopia of happy people and sunny June mornings.

You're right about Madonna which I'm impressed you pikced that up.

In 2020, I will be 40 turning 41. Midlife doesn't bother me. In fact I'm probably mapping D-DAY or screaming like George Patton that I've READ ROMMEL'S BOOK!!! in the desert of North Africa. (which in fact I'm reading that German general today). Crossing the Mississippi to Vicksberg like Grant/the Delaware like Washington. For the scream pick up the movie starring G.I./Silent actor George C.Scott PATTON about the WW2 general made in 1970.

Well in technology, kids and adults will probably be carrying wearable computers. They're the bomb for Rising Adult Millennials just like Cell Phones and Internet.

In Pop Culture Millennials have taken over. GenX music is now classic rock and oldies are 80's and 90's and 2000's. Millennials are Civic minded and are
seen as fun-loving adults who love to party (it will be much cleaner than Xers). Their songs and MTV videos show mature adult Millennials girls especially wanting it all from love, wearable computers, riches to ruling the world and taken over the National Service program their generation is serving in.etc. Millennial Mindset mix with Rising Adulthood experimentation.

Millennials dominate fashion making their civic uniforms a fashion model.
Mary Kate and Ashleyetc. attire as always will mature with the blossoming of Millennials into Rising Adulthood having the biggest fashion empire for global Millennials hitting thier thirities.

GeneXers and Boomers will dominate boring politics. The Culture Wars will be
replaced to focus and emphasize the oppourtunities available for Millennials and the generation after Millennials when coming of age. Boomers and GenXers run the country in peaceful coexistence of their generational persoanes.

Right Arrow In the Year Eight of the Crisis

The Mobility has begun to move. It has become less enchanted with the democracy of violence introduced from Eurasian practices. The entertainment factor of inexpensive and democratic weaponry such as the manufactures of Mr. Mikhail Kalashnikov and the Islamic I.E.D. has run its course.

The same trend follows in the appeal of the modern style of spiritual embrace, the fundamental. The missionary programs from the heated and weathered lands of the Global South's traditional Xianism are beginning to take hold in the hearts of the Mobility replacing the Modernist Literalism with creeds, rituals, and works.

The Romantic Idealisms of the Crown of Creation are giving way to the true path of the Commercial Republic. Men are again employed in the production of things material and ideas practical (though these utilities are still branded with Boomer extravagance--french-cut organic green beans are most always requested by the terms The Great Path Forward and the local brewer's product might be named Inner Peace & Outer Prosperity but the customer of the lower orders wants beans or beer while the Boomer looks to the label and does heartily rejoice.

We will be out of Iraq by then and Bushism will be effectivly repudiated. Also, there will likely be a crackdown on illegal international arms traders.

The current trends towards organic farming and fair trade for third world goods will grow into a self-sustaining industry, much to boomer delight. Over time, these "green" industries will come to be seen as just another part of the commerical corporate establishment by the younger generations.

I hope that helps. I enjoy Virgil's style, though not everyone does. I'm glad that he contributes regularly.

Thank you so much. His points I see are very interesting and I actually agree with some of them. But as a child of the '90s, I need everything spelled out.

Thumbs up Expansion and emendation 2020 A.D.

The Mobility (+the Common Man who's Century it is or it was in the recent past/-the servile subjects of King Numbers {majority rule}) has begun to move. It has become less enchanted with the democracy of violence introduced from Eurasian practices. The entertainment factor of inexpensive and democratic weaponry such as the manufactures of Mr. Mikhail Kalashnikov (the assault rifle and it's self-loading kin) and the Islamic I.E.D. (the roadside explosive) has run its course.

The same trend follows in the appeal of the modern style of spiritual embrace, the fundamental. The missionary programs from the heated and weathered lands of the Global South's (+the virtuous Third World/-the misbegotten failed & failing States beyond the Progressive Core) traditional Xianism (+Roman Catholicism, Lutheranism, Anglicanism/-Popery and near Papists) are beginning to take hold in the hearts of the Mobility replacing the Modernist (late 19th & early 20th Century) Literalism (Fundamentalist) with creeds, rituals, and works.(+The Xian Tradition before Progress/-Dark Aged Superstition)

The Romantic Idealisms (+the Radiant Way of The Brotherhood of the Children of Men/-the drug induced fantasies) of the Crown of Creation(+the Boomers/-the Boomers) are giving way to the true path(+economic growth concerns/-geezerly greed) of the Commercial Republic(+the United States of America/-the United States of America). Men (+Human Beings/-Males & their Bosses) are again employed in the production of things material (+products/- soul-killing junk) and ideas practical(+common sense and reasoned practiced/-soul-killing non-fantasy) (though these utilities are still branded with Boomer extravagance--french-cut organic green beans are most always requested by the terms The Great Path Forward and the local brewer's product might be named Inner Peace & Outer Prosperity but the customer of the lower orders (+the other Equal but varied Generations/-the Non-Crowned and merely made to serve) wants beans or beer while the Boomer looks to the label and does heartily rejoice.(+The Boomer loves the Higher Thing and the Lower Orders the reality of the thing itself/-The Crown of Creation wants the self reward when He Consumes in Virtue {though He knows any act by a Prophet is by Nature a virtous one as this is the WAY THINGS ARE!} and the Lower Orders wish to be fed and intoxicated {and accept that eructions [gases in transit] and farts come with the territory}.

Give it up, 1990 - you wont get anywhere with that one. He annoys everyone on the forum with his nonsense. We have one like him in on the DNS technical fora named Jim Fleming.

Its all nonsense and nothing worth trying to understand. If he cared to have others understand him, he'd speak in plain terms rather than in symbolisms that only he understands. I've asked him to cut it out several times, pointing out how rude it is, but he doesn't seem to listen.

Personally, I'm neither annoyed nor disenchanted. Mr. Saari's missives are exactly what they are intended to be: slow and contemplative reflections. The language virtually assures that they are taken as such. If they irritate you, ignore them.
Marx: Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, diagnosing it incorrectly and applying the wrong remedies.
Lennon: You either get tired fighting for peace, or you die.

I find these explanations highly amusing as well as edifying. This is Mr. Saari's true genius. He is the Jonathan Swift of T4T.

That such posts should generate heat due to friction doesn't deter me in the slightest. When I assert that: the brake is all , do not be surprised that my style doesn't speed you on your (too often Progressive) way.

Virgil's style, in addition to being a delight if for no other reason than requiring of the reader attention (something sorely lacking perhaps in all days-and-ages), serves as a good counterpoint to the prevailing trend of linguistic abuse today.

Anyone who's ever read Orwell knows that the misuse of a language -- particularly an intellectually lazy approach to word choice and structure -- serves only to render the mind less resilient against lies-from-authority. Virgil writes deliberately, which can remind those who are so inclined to be reminded that such is the function of language. Not to convey vague mists and phantasms (monkeys and dogs do as much with their vocalization and appendages) but to be precise.

To call it "nothing worth trying to understand" is to relay perhaps an unfortunate message about the value one's own self places on intellectual rigor.

He does write in English, you know. And he may be tough to follow casually, but it's good to sometimes step out of casual, put on a tie, and act like a gentleman. Builds character.

Aspies and Virgil

I wonder if there is a correlation between one's score on the Aspie test and one's inability to decipher Virgil's prose.

Uh, yeah.

It takes a couple of runs through the decoder, then the intel analysts have to vet it, but eventually I get something useful out of Mr. Virgil.

Marx: Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, diagnosing it incorrectly and applying the wrong remedies.
Lennon: You either get tired fighting for peace, or you die.

Interesting that you picked 2020. Others have choosen that as an ultimate endpoint as well -

Zawahiri’s letter is consistent with the thinking attributed to the radical Islamic leaders surrounding him, and the stages of action he lays out are consistent with their strategic game plan, which includes seven stages leading to the ultimate victory of Islam over the West in 2020. These stages are: (1) The “awakening,” which refers to the attacks of 9/11, designed to make the Islamic movement a central player on the global scene; (2) “opening the eyes,” the period from 2003 to 2006 that will transform al-Qaeda into a “mass movement”; (3) “arising and standing up,” the period from 2007 to 2010 that will focus on terrorist destabilization of existing Muslim regimes; (4) the toppling of the moderate regimes of Egypt, Jordan, Turkey and other Muslim states from 2010 to 2013; (5) the formation of a new world order between 2013 and 2016, based on an Islamic Caliphate as a world power and the weakening of the United States and Israel; (6) a total confrontation between Islam and the West in 2016-2020; and (7) a “Decisive Victory” for Islam in 2020. -- "The Zawahiri Letter and the Strategy of al-Qaeda" by Shmuel Bar & Yair Minzili; Published on Thursday, February 16, 2006 ARTICLES Current Trends in Islamist Ideology vol. 3; Hudson Institute - Center on Islam, Democracy and the Future of the Muslim World
