You and Time Magazine

What a cheap, ridiculous choice, a total copout.

I would have chosen Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as Person
of the Year.

Sincerely,

John

Dear Mr. Xenakis?
I know you prefer the POTIROI's fashion sense; but, what do you think I should wear on GMA?

I have a bespoke three-piece black and white-striped suit in a French pattern from YSL and a bespoke winter weight dark blue and black three-piece wool suit of English cut. Which would be better for the Person of the Year's (and T4T's) image? Do advise.

I know enough not to wear brown in the city, so be assured on that issue!

Dear You,

The preferred candidate is a tiny Shrimp, which limits his clothing
choices. So compared to the Shrimp, You have many more choices.
However, remember that You are chosen because You're such a high-tech
person.

Therefore, I would recommend something a little more modern:

This happened before, sort of.

1981: Machine of the year: The Computer. Translation: We don't know if Reagan is going to be a successful president. So we're hedging our bets.

2006: Person of the year: You. Translation: We don't know if the Reagan era came to an end this year of not. So, we're hedging our bets.

Everyone knows that Toomas Hendrik Ilves was man of the year. Next --->

I think you're giving them much too much credit for thought beyond
ideology.

The Shrimp is the clear and obvious choice for Person of the Year.
No one else even comes close.

But if they'd picked the Shrimp, then they'd be indirectly supporting
the view that the Shrimp is another Hitler, and they would then
appear to be indirectly supporting the Administration.

Rather than do that, they punted with You.

I doubt that most of the children on the Time Magazine staff know much
of anything about Reagan, beyond a few sound bytes, since he was
"before their time."

Sincerely,

John

Yep, total copout.

I would of picked Mahmoud Ahmadinejad or Jon Tester.

It doesn't matter if the individuals involved in each case are the same or not. They all are products of the same corporate culture. No doubt the individuals who were hired in the interum were hired because of who knew they would fit in with the company culture. Thus, when faced witha similar delimna they, as you correctly said "punted."

The Shrimp

In case not all of you know who we're talking about, here's a picture
of David Duke, former Grand Imperial Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan,
bending over and reaching down to shake hands with The Shrimp at last
week's Holocaust Denial conference in Tehran:

Yep as we speak a genocidal madman is quietly preparing to wage a war of conquest against israel, pro-western regimes, europe, and america. Meanwhile in caracas another leader openly speaks of his discontent with his current borders.

I don't see the president of Iran being man of the year. Perhaps, 2007 or 2008 would be a much better year, especially if war occurs.

That "we" are the time "person" of the year says a lot about the emerging zietgeist of the times. Back in January, some popular Web 2.0 blog proclaimed that 2006 was going to be the "year of collaboration." Events are proving this to be correct. As the article says, "But look at 2006...and you'll see...a story about community and collaboration on a scale never seen before. It's about the cosmic compendium of knowledge Wikipedia and the million-channel people's network YouTube and the online metropolis MySpace. It's about the many wresting power from the few and helping one another for nothing and how that will not only change the world, but also change the way the world changes." I think that future events will vindicate TIME's choice.

And he may even be losing his own election as we speak.
