Yes, when this happens when the Millies who work for me do it on the clock when I'm on the supervisory shift, yeah, I get very annoyed when Millies attempt and fail utterly at multitasking work with jacking around with Ishits, I get pissed off. Smartphone dorking is not part of the job description and should never, ever be paid for.

I'm sure that is a feature that's doable. I'm fairly sure they have a "vibrate mode".

Not having a clue about the "I" gadgets and wanting to avoid them like the plague. Amazing some of you are already there. My grandpa has an excuse as he is 88.
My excuse is a disdain for being a sucker. I'm sure 88 years on the odometer has imparted some semblance of the ability to home in on sucker deals as well.

Yup. What people do when off the clock is no big deal for me. It's when distractions happen on shifts I'm in charge of create difficulties that I have issues. People can do whatever they want to when they're off the clock.

Well at least you have a point when you say it affects their ability to do their job however witnessing some who do it and applying it to a generation is just ignorant. I am a millie and i only use my cellphone as i have no use to use the smartphone my mother decided i needed) on my breaks if i can afford to take one. Usually i get bored and go back to work. Doing a good job is top priority for me so it is rather insulting for you to go and say "ishits and millies" in the same sentence. I do a bloody good job and there will be others in my generation who also would do the same. The ishits were also created by a boomer so you can blame that generation for the stupid invention as if some xers here did not need more fuel for their boomer hatred.

Having taught Millie college students for a while now, it seems that #notallmillies spend shittons of time on their phones. Quite a few put the phones away and talk to fellow humans in meat space.

And Tinamarie, I see a lot of my fellow Boomers smartphone obsessed and crappy texters to boot.

It's hilarious to see how Xers are all up in arms about the younger generation. This happens even off the internets.

hehe who is tina? yeah my boomer mother bought me one and i just shoved it in my drawer...somewhere. She is the one who is always on hers. I have more use for a cell and a computer (being a digital artist/animator etc) than using a smartphone. A lot of xers at my work also spend a hell of a lot of time on their digital devices. Even (gasp) on the job!

btw i wont be so ignorant as to blame the boomers for the "i" inventions. It was one boomer. We cannot go labeling entire generations for the actions of the few. People who love technology and have obsessive disorders will take to technology and cling to it even on the job. That also includes my boomer mother. Those of us who shock horror are millies who actually value doing a good job will leave technology in our pocket till the appropriate time. Shock horror i actually even put the phone away when speaking to people!

Funny indeed. The GIs knocked the Boomers, the Boomers knocked the Xers, and now Xers knock the Millennials. You'd think we'd learn to have some faith in the younger generation and let them do things their own way.

Uh, it's not only a work phenomena, but also when I'm on the road. Therein, we have our roadkill candidate sort of Millie. They have their faces glued to their electronic devices and just walk across a street without knowing it! I swear squirrels have more sense than that. Sorry, but I may just live in a zone of Millie stupid, but I just call 'em as I see them. OK, you have a point about this not being just a Millie issue. Next up we have our Xer/Boomer Ishit gazer while driving morons. These denizens of the interwebs likewise aren't watching where they are on the road while in their cars. These would be your roadkill producer sort. This is why Oklahoma has a new law that fines the hell out of these. In a way, I think waterboarding may be a nice touch. Since texting/yakking while driving is more hazardous than drunk driving, a waterboarding session with a loud parrot saying "jacking with phones while driving is for idiots, brrkkk."

I see you use the word, "bloody", which means you ain't from the USA. Fine, I'll limit the stuff to the USA. There's all sorts of just local stupid like Black Friday madness, Reality Show watchers, etc.

Yes, a Boomer invented the thing and managed to create some sort of brand name aura for it. With that said, it's the people who fall for such crap who are the idiots. I refer you again to Black Friday and credit card debt run ups. Again, it's not the folks making the ads who are the morons, rather it's the people who manage to get duped by such things.

Yes, that's how it works, Eric. Unto each generation, each learns from its next elder generation by experience of being knocked. So, in turn when the generation being knocked moves up a notch, it in turns knocks the next younger one, ad infinitum.

And if you are going to argue that nowadays we need to be more interested in more worldly concerns, political and economic and technological and what not, then you can't knock the 2T when it was time to get spiritual and metaphysical and listen to gurus.

You just proved my point that it is not only milles who obsess with the technology so why continue the conversation? Noooo shit! You don't say! I am not from the USA? Well I will be darned! My family is from England....the origin of the english language. They are also saxons whose language was incorporated into the english language. Finally, yes it is the idiots who may abuse the technology at inappropriate times but it is not just millies who abuse it as it appears we both agree on. So, it is just plain silly to label a generation as the ones who abuse it as some members of the boomer, xers and millie generation all do it

If it was harmless, ok fair enough. I have mentioned "some" of it was needed at the time and that it still is now although there are more important matters for now but that does not mean we do not entirely push it aside as i feel you think i meant. I hope people did not take it literally but feel some did as is proven in history through group sacrifices for some of those idiot cults. It was the time for it. I wont argue that. Hell i was not around then so i don't know. But I see historically the dangers they can pose.

If we learn from it. And I don't know if I'd call it experience, except the experience of resistance by elders who are too controlling, and maybe how to deal with it? It is an early stage on the path, according to the tarot story, Campbell, etc.

Ragtime was mentioned.
I partly agree with you when it comes to older folk resisting newer ideas/technology, but I also agree with our xer here when it comes to the change affecting someone's job. If it starts to affect the quality of the job that is an issue. Where i disagree with him is the labeling and also the immature way he is going about it. Don't like it, take the damn phone off the person. They will have to learn not to use it while on the job. On breaks, ok. Off the clock, ok. If there is no reasonable excuse to be on the phone and it is affecting the job negatively that is not ideal and not what they are paid to do. If it is used for work in some way, sure. But i suspect they are not using it for that.

No not from one poster. There are many here who do this who happen to be xers who i do expect better from given many from the generation before them trashed them. Btw please learn to read. I said "THE GEN XERS WHO DO THIS" which in plain english means THE GEN XERS WHO DO THIS, NOT ALL GEN XERS.
