Living in Russia, we wanted to give our dog a good, solid, clearly-American name. Since her litter was "L", and since the name "Lakota" is just too damn cliche, we ended up calling her Lumpkin (Lumpy). It was a great amusement to explain to friends that she was named -- indirectly -- after the governor of Georgia who initiated the last major genocide against the indians of that state.
She died too young, kicking off the the worst year I have ever had. But she was a good dog.
