The winning student wrote:

"Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and promoted by mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a piece of shit by the clean end."

(Posted on another thread in a different website for political commentary)

I'm beginning to see Mitt Romney as a flaming narcissist. Here are nine traits that suggest narcissism if held to an inordinate degree:

Arrogance
Grandiosity
Lust for power and success
Lack of empathy
Sense of entitlement
Exploitativeness
Sense of uniqueness
Envy
Need for excessive admiration

Entrepreneurs and politicians typically have some of these as dominant traits of their character. Three or fewer might be necessary for one's success, and some of them might have other (and not always benign -- especially lack of empathy) associations. Four are trouble, and five or more suggest a menace to be avoided. By no means should anyone be without some of these characteristics. The lack of a healthy ego means that one effectively sews "Kick Me" onto every piece of clothing that one wears.

His father was a high-profile executive (President of American Motors) and politician (Governor of Michigan). So how do you top that? Getting one's way without concern for the feelings and welfare of others.

Here is a documentary on the topic:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SG4c97xXx84

Mitt Romney is not mentioned by name.

(new stuff here):

I am not a psychologist or psychiatrist; if I were I would violate the ethics of the profession. I look at some of Mitt Romney's conduct as a businessman and as a politician, and several of those traits define him. Some of this is very Boomer. Most of us outgrew our childhood conceits ("What -- I can't be conceited -- I'm perfect!) as we had to suck up to customers who thought us less than human, who had to go into a pool -- the typing pool -- after graduating from college, and had to make the usual compromises with spouses, in-laws, bosses, and business partners. Humility, the opposite of narcissism, is not fun. It is a survival tool. Maybe professional athletes, concert and stage performers, and highly-successful entrepreneurs and executives get away with it, but if you are a secretary, a teller, a switchboard operator, a sales clerk, or a waiter you can't show much of an ego on the job.
The greatest evil is not now done in those sordid "dens of crime" (or) even in concentration camps and labour camps. In those we see its final result. But it is conceived and ordered... in clean, carpeted, warmed and well-lighted offices, by (those) who do not need to raise their voices. Hence, naturally enough, my symbol for Hell is something like the bureaucracy of a police state or the office of a thoroughly nasty business concern."

― C.S. Lewis, The Screwtape Letters

In the New Age, which began to dawn in the Revolution when Uranus was discovered (and some years later Neptune), Saturn and Jupiter are only co-rulers of Aquarius and Pisces. The new values are represented by Uranus and Neptune.

Not a problem. That's how democratic elections in a Republic operate, right?

They did the same thing with Scorpio (my sign, BTW) and Pluto; under the traditional arrangement Scorpio is ruled by Mars, as is Aries.

I wonder how they're handling this now that Pluto has been dropped from the official list of planets.
But maybe if the putative Robin Hoods stopped trying to take from law-abiding citizens and give to criminals, take from men and give to women, take from believers and give to anti-believers, take from citizens and give to "undocumented" immigrants, and take from heterosexuals and give to homosexuals, they might have a lot more success in taking from the rich and giving to everyone else.

A vote by some astronomers doesn't affect astrology, and astrologers know from experience how significant Pluto is. It is still a dwarf planet anyway (one of only 5), and everything in the sky is interpreted.

But astrologers did drop Ceres, which was recognized as a planet throughout the 19th Century; I believe they assigned its rulership to Libra, leaving only Taurus ruled by Venus, but then returned Libra to Venus once Ceres was dropped as a planet.

Funny how you were just willing to accept the findings and opinions of those astronomers concerning Neptune and Uranus. But, now you don't want to listen to them about Pluto. Is it any wonder why most people can see that astrology is just made up as they go along. It's shared fantasy play.

I have to agree with the Rani here, Odin. In fact, I was thinking the same thing as I read the piece: "This piece of crap is incoherent. I can't even tell what they're talking about doing, apart from not voting for Obama. This is no cause for concern."

I really don't think it is. We already knew there were nut jobs out there among the Tea Party. This is nothing new.

Over the top and emotionally-based sure, but I don't think it's stupid. It is obvious that the piece is not a call for specific action (if it were it would be stupid).

I read the article. "Should not go out of our way to accommodate" does not necessarily equate to "wish to disenfranchise", though in practice (and intent!) it may. And a statement of "We're not going to change our ways to accommodate" even more so.
